Operation Townsman

'Townsman' was a British deception plan controlled from Gibraltar to facilitate the implementation of the 'Torch' landings (October/November 1942).

The plan was the contribution of Colonel Dudley W. Clarke’s 'A' Force to 'Kennecott', and was one of the eight British deception plans associated with 'Torch'. The plan was designed to support the notional objective of the 'Torch' convoys as Sicily and the 'toe' of Italy, as well as a diversionary attack on Crete.
