Operation Tripod

'Tripod' was an Allied unrealised airborne operation by Lieutenant General Lewis H. Brereton’s Allied 1st Airborne Army for landings to outflank the 'Westwall' in the area to the north of Karlsruhe and to establish an airhead on the eastern side of the Rhine river between Karlsruhe and Mannheim (spring 1945).

The operation was conceived as a means of speeding the eastward advance of Lieutenant General Jacob L. Devers’s Allied 6th Army Group.
