Operation UGF

'UGF' was the designation of Allied fast convoys (together with a numerical and sometimes a literal suffix) plying the route from Chesapeake Bay on the eastern coast of the USA to the Mediterranean (October 1942/April 1945).

There were 26 such convoys of which the first, UGF.1, was the US invasion force for 'Torch'. The last was UGF.22 of 28 March/6 April 1945 with the 10,221-ton US Kennebec and 6,963-ton commissioned transport Tarazed, escorted by the US destroyers John D. Edwards, Mervine and Quick.
