Operation UGL

'UGL' was the designation of Allied landing craft convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from the east coast of the USA to Gibraltar and then ports in the Mediterranean (April/May 1943).

The first of these two convoys was UGL.2 of 9/30 April 1943 with the 5,450-ton US Navy oiler Kaweah, 31 tank landing ships, 37 infantry landing craft, the fleet tug Narragansett and the netlayer Pepperwood, and the last was UGL.4 which departed New York City on 1 May with 16 tank landing ships and four infantry landing craft.
