'Viersen' was a US deception by the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops in support of the 'Exploit' cover plan for the Rhine river crossing of Lieutenant General William H. Simpson’s US 9th Army (18/24 March 1945).
Named after the capital of a district in Nordrhein-Westfalen, 'Viersen' simulated the assembly of Major General Leland S. Hobbs’s US 30th Division and Major General Ira T. Wyche’s US 79th Division in the zone of Major General Alvan C. Gillem’s US XIII Corps.
