Operation Werwolf (iii)

'Werwolf' (iii) was a German major air effort by 183 Messerschmitt Bf 109G fighter aircraft, stripped largely of armour and armament but flown by pilots ready to ram their targets if necessary, over Lake Steinhude just to the north-west of Hannover, for the defence of Germany proper against the Allied day and night bombing campaigns (7 April 1945).

The German fighters attacked 15 US aircraft, of which eight were destroyed, but in the process lost 77 of their own number.
