'WP' was the designation of British coastal convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from Milford Haven and other ports of south Wales mainly to Portsmouth on the south coast of the UK (July 1941/May 1944).
The first of these 547 'Wales to Portsmouth' convoys was WP.1 of 3/6 July 1941 with the 991-ton British Botne and 1,507-ton British British Scout but no escorts, and the last was WP.529 of 28/30 May 1944 with the 6,526-ton Dutch Ovula escorted by the frigates Lindsay, Narbrough, Spragge and Waldegrave, and corvettes Primrose and Canadian Summerside.
