Operation ZG

'ZG' was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from the eastern end of the Panama Canal to Guantánamo, Cuba, and as such reciprocals of the 'GZ' series (August 1942/May 1945).

The first of the 141 such convoys was ZG.1 of 31 August/5 September 1942 with 10 merchant vessels and five US escorts in the form of the destroyers Borie and J. Fred Talbott, patrol yacht/gunboat Jade, and submarine chasers PC-461 and PC-465. The last of these convoys was ZG.139 of May 1945.
