'Zarin' was a German naval minelaying operation off the north-west coast of Novaya Zemlya island, lying to the north of the continental USSR, by a force under the command of Konteradmiral Wilhelm Meisel and comprising the heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper escorted by the destroyers Richard Beitzen, Z 23, Z 28, Z 29 and Z 30 (24/28 September 1942).
