Operation Abigail

'Abigail' was a British naval operation for the delivery of relief stores and personnel to the Norwegian garrison on Spitsbergen island to the north of German-occupied Norway (27 September/9 October 1944).

Departing Scapa Flow in the Orkney islands group, the ships involved were the light cruiser Jamaica, which carried the stores and personnel, and the destroyers Obedient and Orwell as escorts. The entire undertaking proceeded without incident.
