'Aurora' was the designation of the German naval decision that cruisers were to be deployed against Allied convoys only when there were no Allied heavy warships covering the convoys in question (autumn 1942 onward).

If the presence of Allied major warships became evident after the German battle-cruisers and/or cruisers had left port, the Germans ships were immediately to break off their operations and return to port.
