Operation Canute

'Canute' was a British deception plan, associated with 'Gargoyle', by the London Controlling Section for the proposed 'Brimstone' (ii) assault on Sardinia after the completion of North African operations (1943/44).

Designed to persuade the Germans to reinforce areas distant from Sardinia', 'Canute' was centred on the 'story' that forces concentrated in the UK supposedly for 'Brimstone' were actually to be used for amphibious assaults on Norway or northern France.
