Operation Groundsheet (i)

This was a British aerial minelaying operation, otherwise known as ‘Shred’, by RAF units off the coast of German-occupied Norway (15/16, 23/24, 24/25 and 25/26 February 1945).

None of the 37 Avro Lancaster and 18 Handley Page Halifax bombers despatched on the first mission was lost, and the same applied to the 22 Lancaster aircraft on the second mission and the 35 Lancaster aircraft on the third mission, but one of the Halifax aircraft on the fourth mission was lost.
