Herbstlaub' was a German unrealised plan for an offensive by Generaloberst Hermann Hoth’s 4th Panzerarmee against the Soviet forces around Krasnoarmeysk and Betekovka near the junction of the Don-Volga Canal with the Volga river to the south-east of Stalingrad (15 September/13 October 1942).
This was vital point in the Soviet southern defence perimeter round Stalingrad, where forces which had been concentrated on the left bank of the Volga river could cross to the west bank for the build-up of General Andrei I. Eremenko’s Stalingrad Front that was in November 1942 to launch the southern half of the great 'Uran' pincer movement to trap Generaloberst Friedrich Paulus’s 6th Army and part of the 4th Panzerarmee in Stalingrad.
