Operation Mädchen


'Mädchen' was the German programme of rearguard actions by General Joachim Lemelsen’s 14th Army of Generalfeldmarschall Albert Kesselring’s Heeresgruppe 'C' along the Arno river in the northern part of central Italy as Lieutenant General Mark W. Clark’s US 5th Army advanced to the north in the direction of Florence (August 1944).
