'Peter' (i) was a German naval minelaying operation off the Matochkin Strait separating the Severny and Yuzhny islands of the Novaya Zemlya group by Korvettenkapitän Hans-Joachim Horrer’s U-589 (23 August/1 September 1942).

It is believed that the 417-ton Soviet anti-submarine trawler Musson (No. 23) was lost on 11 October 1942 after striking one of the 16 TMC mines laid by U-589 on 28 August.
